Collaborating to Conserve the Environment

On May 16, 2024, Creats International collaborated with stakeholders and organized a one-day tree planting event in God Wire Forest, Oyugis in Homa Bay County. Stakeholders included the Mango Tree Orphan Support Trust, Wire Community Forest Association, Kenya Forest Services, local schools, and Creats International.

According to Global Forest Watch, Homa Bay had 50.2 kha of natural forest in 2010, extending over 12% of its land area. In 2023, it lost 84 ha of natural forest, equivalent to 15.1 kt of CO₂ emissions. Kabondo Kasipul, where we planted trees, experiences the highest cases of deforestation. We are wrestling deforestation through awareness and sensitization campaigns, tree planting, leveraging indigenous knowledge, and carbon markets to promote smallholder farmers' participation in environmental conservation.

Planting trees helps to combat climate change and foster sustainable community livelihoods. Seeing so many dedicated individuals come together with a shared vision for a greener, more sustainable future was inspiring. Let's continue collaborating to nurture these trees and our planet for future generations.

Involving school children is an effective mechanism to instill the value of environmental conservation from a young age. We are excited to collaborate with other like-minded organizations to accelerate the pace of reforestation and reafforestation projects in Homa Bay County and beyond.
