Regenerative Agriculture

Climate change and food and nutrition insecurity pose two of the greatest development challenges of our time, yet a more sustainable food system cannot only heal the planet, but ensure food security for all. From the department of agriculture in Homa Bay County, more efforts have been made by agricultural officers in training and advising farmers on matters related to crop production. Even so, there is still a lot that needs to be done to transform our agricultural food systems. As change agents at the grassroot level, CREATS support farmers to employ the concept of using locally available resources and use of technologies to stabilize our delicate ecosystem. Organic agriculture is one of the key areas we focus on, this is because it can contribute to meaningful socio-economic and ecologically sustainable development especially in these rural areas. Central to organic agriculture are promotion of soil fertility, conservation of biodiversity, production methods that are adapted to the locality and avoidance of chemical inputs. Our organic farmers do not fight against the natural dynamics, on the contrary, they use them to their advantage.
